Hospital marks World Health Day

PASIR GUDANG: ABOUT 800 people, mostly health enthusiasts and residents of Masai and Pasir Gudang, participated in the Seri Alam Regency Specialist Hospital's World Health Day celebrations.

The hospital's management organised several activities in the half-day event that kicked off at 8am.

Among the activities was a Zumba exercise led by instructor Zin Peggy.

Zumba is an aerobic fitness programme featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance.

The hour-long dance attracted a large crowd including Regency Specialist Hospital chief executive officer Chin Wei Jia, staff, guests and also their family members.

There were also free health screenings, medical check-ups and consultations by the hospital's specialists, health talks and exhibitions, a colouring competition, a pottery painting contest for kids, a blood donation, lucky draws, and a quiz.

The highlight was a cooking demonstration by Chef Wan, or Datuk Wan Redzuawan Ismail, who dished up the Hawaiian prawn salad, Spain seafood Paella and Minestrone soup.

The 56-year-old showed that good delicious food can also be healthy. The dishes were sugar-free, salt-free and almost cholesterol-free.

A fan Hayati Ibrahim was on cloud nine after seeing Wan in person at the cooking demonstration.

"All this while I have only seen the cooking maestro on TV, getting the chance to see him close and personal was fantastic.

"I was sitting nearest to him during the two-hour cooking demonstration," said the 28-year-old teacher from Masai.

Wan served his dishes to the audience and Hayati said it was simply delicious.

Meanwhile, Chin said Regency Specialist Hospital has been regularly involved in outreach programmes. and it was their aspiration to produce a healthy community.

She added that it was also important to have a balanced diet, exercise regularly and to have their annual medical check-ups.

At the colouring competition, Teyo Jia Lin, 12, won first place while 13-year-old Muhamad Rifqi Shamin was declared champions of the pottery painting competition.

Victor Francis Beins received a tablet for winning the "Count and Win" contest after correctly guessing the number of apples in a glass container.
